My Money Diet starts now ~ How to go on a Money Diet?

My situation here is once I get my pay on the mid of each month, it will be gone by the 30th/ last day of the money. The money goes to all the billings and utilities and part of it to my saving account. By the end of everything, I will either end up broke or with a few cents in my pockets. What is the root cause of not having enough money for my daily expenses? Part of it will have to be my shopping nature that is to shop on impulse. My understanding of retail therapy is to spend thousands of dollars on clothes, bags and accessories. At this rate, how does one manage her own finance and savings for the future? It is a bad habit that I have to stop (I know I can’t). Money just doesn’t stretch from payday to payday. Is it time to go on a money diet? No, I am not talking about budgets here. It is more about the spending habit and maybe its time to curb mine. This can be a short term change to get through a financial crisis. Hopefully!

As building up the money-saving muscle does sometimes involve a fight. The opposition are product provider (my make up products, cosmetics), my Crabtree products whose goal is to make as much money as possible from me. My task is to STOP.

So what can I do as for now?

1) Idah Noraidah needs to cut down on impulse shopping ~ No more LV bags, clothing’s or accessories. No more excuses to go shopping. Try to avoid online shopping sites while surfing the internet.

2) Think of it a TIME OUT on spending. Get the family, Fiancé together and decide on a length of time for the trial period of the money diet. A month seems manageable and could really make a difference in the money situation

3) Cut back on food costs. See how these little spending (like snacks and tidbits) can get by on this area. Ask your Fiancé to prepare meals (ok...Prepare meals together) using the readily available stocks and supplies at home.

4) Don’t buy any clothing during the month-long money diet. Take out and remove all those unforgotten clothing in the wardrobe. Try them on with different combinations and accessories that you have on hand. Get out the needles and threads to sew the button back on that favorite shirt that you haven’t been wearing. I have a lot of dresses to be worn and lots of new clothing’s which I keep on ordering online. Maybe I can sell off those unused clothing at the flea market!

5) Look for free entertainment. Try to cut down the cost on those regular Saturday dates. Instead of movies, try a family game night using board games and deck of cards. Our Monopoly deal! Pictureka! Go to the library to borrow books and read with your love ones at the park! Go to the Museum on our free day or take a walk in the park! Let’s go Andy!

6) Skip buying things for the home like decorator accessories. Fix up the home with what you have, clean everything and rearrange things to get a fresh look without spending the money you need.

7) Please try to be a Smart Shopper ~ when you can resist everything except temptation, trips to the supermarket can be a financial nightmare! While supermarkets do encourage you to “impulse buying”, it is possible to beat them at their own game and make great savings when you shop. Write a list of the items that you need before heading out and only take the money you need – this is because you will not be able to spend more than what you have! Check out the weekly specials to get better prices. (Andy, please take note of this!)

8) Learn to adjust lifestyle ~ separating needs from wants. Do you really need a Chanel bag?

9) Set your financial goal ~ Plan for the year all the expenses you will have to make and how much money you will need to cover the expenses

10) Leave your ATM card at home when you are going out alone. I just know myself too well that I will spend that money in the bank. Always! Even when I told myself that I am just going out to get some breakfast for my parents.

P.S: So what is your financial goal for the year?
