SMITHS Authentic Fish & Chips

Hello All,

Have you tried dining at Smiths Authentic Fish and Chips? We so called had the “luxury of time” ~ taking the public transportation and my cravings for Fish and Chips could also be the contributing factors to set our empty stomach at the restaurant. More likely like a fast food outlet which is casual in concept with limited seats to cater for unexpected crowds. Do not expect to be served. You will need to order and pay at the counter. Take a choice of your seats and wait for your number to be called when the food is ready.

It was our first time. We were indecisive of the menus available on the board displays. After much consideration, we made our choices on “Cod and Chips” for me and “Chicken and Chips” for my Fiancé. Smiths special Curry Sauce to go along with it. Pricey I should say! Overpriced? SGD$17 for the fish and chips!

“Number 78! Number 78! Your food is ready!” ~ My fiancé rushed to the counter at the speed of light!

Not served on plates. Plastic knives and spoons for the cutlery…Packed in well wrapped paper ~ that is how it will be served. I could hear my tummy rumbling. Food! Food! I couldn’t wait to have a taste of the so called boasted fantastic batter that is crispy and succulent. The serving was huge for a selective eater like me ~ for I know that Andy will definitely help to finish it up! The enormous amount of chips and a chunky piece of cod dipped and covered with the right amount of flour. Perfect ~ just fine! The cod is fresh but it is a bit on the dry side and not that moist and juicy type which I am more used to. Ermmm...I don’t really like the fish…But the chips were awesome! Not like those typical thinly sliced fries, the chips are crispy, thick! ~ yes, about 1cm thick and fried to almost golden perfection. Although I was full, I kept on stuffing the chips slowly and continuously into my mouth. Non stop! Oh wait. The curry sauce wasn’t much to my liking though. It doesn’t go well with my food and most of the time I was almost finishing up that bottle of Heinz tomato ketchup which goes great with the chips!

Are you thinking of trying it? Get your cash ready! Ka-ching for the experience!

Hi Noraidah, i agree with you that the cod and chips are a bit on the dry side but as you said the batter is good. However i won't go there specially to eat it cos for that kind of price, i would prefer better service and i don't like the idea of eating on a piece of paper as each time the wind blows, the food is in danger of flying away! I like their fries too, but it would be better if it was less salty. There is no tartar sauce and no chilli sauce. However the battered mars bars were heavenly!
